This week, I put Mr Chatwin in the hot seat to find out more about him both inside and outside of school!
Before working at TIFS, Mr Chatwin trained as a teacher at Cowes Enterprise College, before moving to TIFS to be a Science Teacher.
As a child, Mr Chatwin said he wanted to become either a scientist or a journalist, which makes sense considering he is now a Science Teacher. Although I could see Mr Chatwin in another life interviewing celebrities!
Mr Chatwin’s favourite food is pizza, great choice! “My favourite pizza is a BBQ meat feast, though closely followed by a old reliable pepperoni” This made me then want to find out his views on pineapple on pizza. “I agree with people having pineapple on pizza, I dont want it on my pizza though.”
His favourite soft drink is Dr Pepper – a solid choice!
We also found out that he has a cat called Lyra. When we asked about Lyra, Mr Chatwin told us “Lyra is a rescue from Cats Protection, so she is a mixed breed but is mostly a Tabby Bengal mix. She is very playful and loving, though sometimes likes to bring mice home for us. She absolutely loves anything chicken flavoured.”
At TIFS, Mr Chatwin is a Head of Year as well as a Science teacher, helping students both in lessons and around school life.
When it comes to holidays, his favourite place to visit is Rhodes because of the warm weather and beautiful views.
Mr Chatwin also runs lots of enrichments at school, including Ukulele, Duke of Edinburgh, and Cycling. These enrichments give pupils the chance to learn new skills and try different activities after school. I wanted to know what enrichment Mr Chatwin would run if there were no limitations – “I would love to run a proper downhill mountain biking enrichment where we got to go to a mountain bike park.”
Finally I asked him what his favourite part of teaching is…”My favourite part of teaching is dealing with incredibly kind and hardworking people every day who genuinely want to succeed, they make teaching enjoyable.”
Overall, it was great getting to know more about Mr Chatwin and finding out some interesting facts about him!
