We all know what pupils get up to during the school day, but what happens when the final bell rings? From swimming and surfing to theatre and racing, it turns out our new Year 7s have some pretty interesting hobbies.
This week, we took a stroll around the school to find out what Year 7 pupils enjoy doing in their spare time. Although some were a little nervous about being interviewed, they rose to the challenge and were happy to tell us about their interests.
First, we spoke to Libby, who enjoys swimming. When asked what she likes most about it, she told us that she enjoys getting sweaty and racing against other people. Swimming is certainly a good way to burn off some energy, especially if you enjoy a bit of competition.
Libby wasn’t the only pupil with a sporty hobby. Lucas told us that he enjoys playing golf, particularly when he gets the chance to smash the ball as far as possible. Meanwhile, Bjorn prefers running because he enjoys being outdoors and keeping active.
Football was another popular choice, with Xavey telling us that his favourite part of the sport is the physicality. Whether it’s running, swimming or kicking a football around, it seems our Year 7s enjoy keeping themselves busy.
Of course, not everyone spends their free time playing traditional sports. We also spoke to Benjamin, who takes part in racing. Interestingly, his favourite part is the feeling of getting strapped into his seatbelt before a race. Perhaps it’s the excitement of knowing what’s about to happen that makes it so enjoyable.
For those who prefer something a little more adventurous, Freida told us about her surf group. She particularly enjoys having the opportunity to help people when they need it, showing that hobbies aren’t always just about having fun yourself.
We also met Mary, who enjoys gymnastics. Her favourite part is performing flips on the bars, something that certainly requires plenty of practice and confidence. We think we’ll leave that one to the professionals!
Away from the world of sport, some pupils prefer activities that give them the chance to socialise and express themselves.
Freddie told us that he attends Scouts, where his favourite part is getting to make new friends. It’s a great opportunity to meet people outside of school and take part in different activities.
Finally, we spoke to Etta, who enjoys theatre. For her, the best parts are seeing her friends and getting the chance to perform. Whether it’s being on stage or spending time with people who share the same interests, theatre clearly has plenty to offer.
After speaking to so many Year 7 pupils, one thing became clear: there’s certainly no shortage of interesting hobbies at TIFS.
From the excitement of racing to the creativity of theatre, everyone has their own way of enjoying their time outside school. It’s also nice to see how many pupils use their hobbies as an opportunity to make friends, develop skills and try something different.
So, next time you’re chatting to someone in Year 7, why not ask what they get up to outside school? You might be surprised by their answer.
