We decided to interview some Year 8 pupils to find out what GCSE options they are thinking of picking for next year. Choosing options is a big step, as it helps shape what subjects they will study in the future and what they might want to do later in life.

The choices pupils make can say a lot about them as a person. Some people prefer sporty subjects like PE or Dance, while others enjoy creative subjects like Art, Music, and Drama. There are also pupils who prefer more academic subjects like History or Geography. Everyone is different, which is what makes it interesting to see what people choose.

We spoke to a few Year 8 pupils to hear their thoughts.

Darcy told us that she is planning to pick Music and History. She said she is really looking forward to Year 9 because she will get to be in lessons with different people, which she thinks will be a nice change. She is excited to explore her subjects in more detail.

Evie said that she wishes there was more musical theatre in the school, as that is something she really enjoys. She is thinking about choosing Drama and History because she finds them exciting and feels like they will be fun to learn. She is especially looking forward to performing and developing her confidence.

Finally, Sofie told us she wants to take Dance and Art because she enjoys being creative and expressing herself. She likes lessons where she can use her imagination and try new things.

Overall, it is clear that pupils are choosing a wide range of subjects based on their interests, strengths, and what they enjoy the most. Choosing GCSE options can feel like a big decision, but it’s also an exciting opportunity to focus on the subjects you love.

We can’t wait to see what everyone chooses and how they get on in Year 9!
