Teacher in the Hot Seat is back in Salve News, and this week, we had the pleasure of interviewing Mrs. Breach! She had plenty to share about her experiences at TIFS, her favourite subjects, and even a few fun facts about herself.
A Love for Teaching
When asked what inspired her to become a teacher, Mrs. Breach spoke fondly of her primary school teacher, Mrs. Morgan. She recalled, “I had an amazing primary teacher called Mrs. Morgan, and I wanted to be like her, so I have wanted to be a teacher since I was about six years old!”
Her Journey at TIFS
Mrs. Breach has been teaching at TIFS for 9 years and 1 term. Over the years, she has taught a variety of subjects, including Geography, History, Games, English, and Maths. In previous schools, she even taught DT, Art, and Science! When asked about her favourite cohort, she admitted, “I have a soft spot for the 2016 cohort since I was their Head of Year when they started. But as the Access Officer, I’ve enjoyed helping all the cohorts!”
One of the most rewarding parts of her current role is helping pupils with their access arrangements, ensuring they have the support they need to succeed in their GCSEs. She shared, “Helping the pupils with their access arrangements—making sure that they are able to access the GCSEs and achieve their best—is the best part of my job.”
Other Jobs Before Teaching
Before becoming a teacher, Mrs. Breach had quite a variety of jobs. As a student, she worked five part-time jobs at once, including roles in pubs, a fishmonger, a fruit and veg shop, and even as a waitress at The Royal Hotel in Ventnor! However, she ultimately followed her passion for education.
Memorable Moments and Laughter in Teaching
Mrs. Breach has had many funny moments while teaching, from pupils’ comments, staff jokes, or unexpected events. One of her favourite memories was during sports day, when her Rubeum tutor group decided to wear red sombreros—and even ran in them!
Her best moment at TIFS so far was when Rubeum winning sports day and achieving seven first-place finishes in the summer show!
Fun Questions with Mrs. Breach
I asked Mrs Breach if she could be any animal, what would she be and she told me that she would be a tiger—or possibly an orca whale—as she has always loved them.
And finally, we wanted to know Mrs Beach’s best joke:
“What city cheats at exams?”
Peking!
A huge thank you to Mrs. Breach for taking the time to chat with us! Stay tuned for the next Teacher in the Hot Seat—who will it be next?
