Have you ever wondered what happens in the Food Critics enrichment? We went along to find out what pupils have been tasting and which foods have become favourites… or ended up on the “never again” list!
Food Critics is an enrichment where pupils get the chance to try a wide range of foods, from everyday snacks to unusual treats they may never have tasted before. Everyone has different tastes, so it was interesting to hear which foods people loved and which they couldn’t stand. Some pupils enjoy simple flavours, while others like trying more adventurous foods, such as chocolate-covered sour cherries or dried papaya.
First, we interviewed Isla J and Rose S. They both told us that their favourite food they had tried was toffee popcorn, while their least favourite was herb and garlic olives, which they agreed weren’t to their taste. Every food they try is rated out of ten, and everyone in the enrichment tastes the same food before sharing their opinions. They explained that they chose Food Critics because they wanted to try different foods and expand their taste buds by experiencing new flavours.
Next, we spoke to Freddie S, Eli N, Darcy E, Victoria B and Molly B. We asked why they had chosen the enrichment, and the most common answer was that it was the perfect activity after PE because they were always hungry! Holly had a different reason, saying simply, “I love my food!” When we asked about the best and worst foods they had tried, there were lots of different opinions. Some of the favourites included Oreos, dried mango and chocolate-covered sour cherries, while the least popular foods included cabbage, Jaffa Cakes and dried papaya. Interestingly, Freddie actually said dried papaya was one of his favourites, showing that everyone has different tastes.
Finally, we interviewed Emily C and Florence P-M, who helped to create the Food Critics enrichment. They explained that they started it because they thought it would be a fun way for pupils to try a variety of different foods and flavours that they might not normally choose.
Overall, Food Critics has been a huge success. It gives pupils the chance to discover new favourite foods, share their opinions and have plenty of laughs along the way. If you’re looking for a fun enrichment next term and enjoy trying new things, Food Critics is definitely one to consider!
